With a Master's degree in International and Intercultural Communication from the University of Denver and a Bachelor's degree in History from the esteemed University of California at Davis, Maureen's credentials form the foundation of her prowess. The year 2021 saw her acclaimed as a DEI Champion by the National Diversity Council, while in early 2019, PR News dubbed her Nonprofit Communicator of the Year – a testament to her unwavering commitment to the causes she champions.
A trailblazer in lifting up cultural diversity and centering BIPOC experiences, Maureen's passion for social justice and community building is the driving force behind her every move. As a proud Mexican-American and first-generation college graduate, she embodies the essence of resourcefulness, resilience, and adaptability, forged by years of dedicated work that began at the age of 15.

Through her Communication Equity Plan, she set standards for diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and digital accessibility, instilling these values into every member of her team.
As Communications Director at the Colorado Nonprofit Association, Maureen's indelible impact was felt in every aspect. A catalyst for shaping the organization's vision and cultivating community bonds, she fostered an adaptive team culture driven by insights from the very communities they served. In her strategic communications plans, community engagement and trust-building took center stage, creating a tapestry of connectivity that resonated with all.
